Who we are
Front & Back 9 Junior Golf Academy is a community enhancement organization that was created to serve youth in the Triangle area. This organization will engage youth in extracurricular activities that will promote physical wellness and mental health.
The idea of the Junior Golf Academy is innovative and different from other athletic programs in the Southeast Raleigh area. Golf is a non-traditional sport that can be played on a personal and professional level. This alternative sport has piqued the interest of many parents that are looking to have their youth involved in various activities that do not involve direct contact. This is not a gender-specific sport, so both young girls and boys can actively participate. Youth will be exposed to different areas such as country clubs, tournaments, and other events where golfing is exemplified.
What We Do
Programs
At Front & Back 9 Junior Golf Academy, we offer programs that give students the chance to play, compete, and grow. From golf lessons and competitive teams to leadership and community projects, each program is designed to develop skills on the course and confidence in life.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is a roadmap for growth, combining technical golf instruction with lessons in strategy, mental focus, and teamwork. Through a series of progressive sessions, students refine their skills, apply what they’ve learned, and gain the confidence and character to succeed both on the course and in life.
Value System
At Front & Back 9 Junior Golf Academy, our nine core values are the foundation of everything we do. From honesty and integrity to perseverance and confidence, these principles guide students’ actions, decisions, and growth—shaping not just better golfers, but better people.

Darryel Washington
FOUNDER / EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & GOLF COACH
Darryel R. Washington is an avid golfer, visionary and tenacious leader and a self-determined professional with a heart for youth and a passion for business. His business experience encompasses financial and strategic planning, sales and marketing. This includes the industries of radio, food and beverage, financial services, insurance, and telecommunications. A trained athlete and 15-year baseball player, his love of golf began in 2009 when he received his first set of golf clubs as a birthday gift. This led him to sign up for training at a local golf course and he has not stopped golfing since. Darryel views golf as a mental game that allows for mental accommodation and clarity. This also allows for numerous and excellent networking opportunities. Darryel also believes that golf provides an alternative to the current popular and traditional sports culture. Golf allows youth to connect with nature as well as develop athletic skills. These skills can be used towards a sport that can be played throughout their lifetime whether on an amateur or professional level.
